Trader Joe’s Chile Spiced Mango slices contain cane sugar, plus extra added sugar contained in the seasoning used. This makes the Chile Spiced Mango the most sugary option of the bunch, with 26 grams per serving (½ cup).
Trader Joe’s Soft & Juicy Mango also contains added sugar, while their Just Mango Slices contain, well, just mango!
Are Trader Joe’s Dried Mangoes Healthy?
Deciding whether dried mangoes are healthy or not can be a bit tricky. On the one hand, mangoes are a fruit. And fruit is healthy, right?
But on the other hand, mangoes are extremely high in sugar, and dehydrated fruit is especially infamous for packing in a lot of sugar per serving.
Some Trader Joe’s Dried Mango varieties, including their Chile Spiced Mango and Soft & Juicy Mango, even contain added cane sugar, making them even higher on the glycemic index.
If you’re concerned about calories, Trader Joe’s Dried Mangos aren’t so bad. The most you’ll get is 140 calories per serving (Dried Chile Mango). The carbohydrate content is moderate, but the vast majority of the carbs in dried mango come from sugar.
The big takeaway here is that Trader Joe’s Chile Spiced Mango is the least healthy option, while the Just Mango Slices or the Organic Dried Mango are the healthiest.
Interestingly, mangoes have been shown to play a positive role in the prevention of obesity related chronic inflammatory conditions. However, a 2017 study was unable to find evidence that mango supplementation on its own reduces inflammatory markers in obese adults.
